Critical Role Campaign 4 Unveils the Warriors Table

Since the launch of Campaign 4, fresh DM the talented storyteller has maintained audience suspense with rich lore, a colorful mix of characters, and a thrilling plot featuring divine entities, demons, and malevolent powers expanding in influence within the city.

Warning: Spoilers for the latest installment of this adventure follow below.

The Combat-Oriented Party Unveiled

Episode 3 concluded with a huge suspense moment and presented the first table of adventurers who will separate from the primary party to embark on their independent quest, separate from the additional parties.

The Soldiers table consists of Teor Pridesire (brought to life by the voice actor), Thimble (Laura), the fierce warrior (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (the player), and Kattigan (Robbie Daymond).

Why Split the Party?

Considering 13 cast members, it was evident from the start that keeping everyone at one table would be unfeasible.

That’s why, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Prelude, connecting the individual narratives before branching into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Planners, and Seekers.

The Nature of the Warrior Group

As described by the Dungeon Master, the combat-focused party is for players who enjoy a traditionally charged fight-heavy story mode where peaceful solutions are few and far between.

Upon first impression, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander might look unsuited, but the events of the latest installment demonstrate why these five characters are best suited for the combat party.

Why They Must Go

First, the party has a clear idea where to go next after a violent opening clash with the antagonists.

A former ally of Thjazi—whose passing started the narrative’s action—used The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, invading the hidden lair, striking the rogue, and taking all the magical artifacts to auction.

The antagonist then paid off his debts and fled to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, north of Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.

Character Drivers

Secondly, each adventurer has a personal reason to depart Dol-Makjar:

  • The rogue, as the companion and trusted friend, seeks vengeance.
  • The adventurer knows the region and warns that it is a hostile location.
  • Tyranny and The healer, having defied his house’s orders to eliminate the fighter and instead rescued him, have no other options.
  • Yet, their position as prominent individuals in the influential clan could enable the party enter areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Furthermore, The grateful character swore a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his deliverance and will now accompany him anywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

Finally, all of them are hunted by the rulers that control Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making remaining behind too risky:

  • Thimble and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The strong figure and The cleric turned against the influential house and the army of fiends they are allied with.
  • The fighter is targeted for elimination by the clan.

This results in them little choice but to head to Timmony in quest for the traitor.

Upcoming Developments

From the recent installment’s Cooldown, we learn that the Soldiers table won’t be around next week, leaving the remaining eight players to round up the Seekers and Planners tables.

Fans can anticipate discovering which characters will be where in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, released on October 24.
